The Boulton Paul Defiant, manufactured by the Boulton Paul Aircraft Company and designed as a two-seater, turret armed fighter aircraft, took its first flight in 1937 and entered service with the RAF in December 1939. Nicknamed 'Daffy' by the pilots who flew them.
